Rachel Reeves said there would be a £22.6bn increase in the day-to-day health budget and a £3.1bn increase in the capital budget over this year and next—a combined boost to NHS money of £25.7bn. However, NHS campaigners are warning of openings for the private sector in all the areas being boosted, for instance through the use of private hospitals to handle the backlog of procedures and operations. The BMA notes the dangerous absence of any plan to deal with the pressures on GPs.
