Reclaim the NHS and Save Our Local Hospitals

After having a roof over your head, income to pay for essentials food, water, transport & heating, the NHS gives the people of Britain one of the largest contributions to a better quality of life quite literally – from cradle to grave.

The disinterest shown by the unions in the continual reorganisations of the NHS structures doesn’t makes sense. The NHS is the UK’s largest employer & 6th in the world 1,632,000M employees serving a population of 69.2M figures 2022.
EVERYONE NEEDS THE NHS.

So what are the TUC & Unions doing to protect the NHS from even more privatisation, fragmentation, outsourcing, a worsening service & employment conditions for their members? NOT MUCH IT SEEMS

Since signing up in 2007 under the Blair Government the unions in the NHS have been tied into the Social Partnership Agreements. In 2024 unions were still signing up to the Social Partnership Agreements. WHY?

Is there something in the Social Partnership Agreements that prevents unions fighting tooth & nail to make sure the NHS is comprehensive & universal? Free at the point of use; which is publicly owned, publicly provided & publicly funded? AND making sure that all NHS workers are employed on negotiated NHS contracts without the asset stripping & instability of private companies employing essential NHS workers on inferior terms & conditions so companies can extract more profit for their shareholders & the executive mega salaries. WE NEED TO KNOW.

87% of the public feel strongly about protecting the public ownership of the NHS (We Own It) and from feedback to the Reclaim the NHS campaigning over the last 4 years this support for the public status of the health services is stronger than ever. So why aren’t the unions & their members not using their power & influence to stop the privatisation & insisting on equitable NHS workforce & recruitment plans to fill the +121,000 vacancies, improve work conditions, wages & make the frontline health services more effective in looking after the public?

Up until now the campaigns to save the NHS from further reorganisations, internal markets, privatisations, asset stripping and the cancellation the PFI debit burdens have predominately come from the community, its’t it time the UNIONS stepped up to the plate and fought for their members and the public to make sure we go forward with a fully public NHS?

THIS LABOUR GOVERNMENT’S 10 YEAR PLAN WILL BE THE DEATH OF A PUBLIC NHS. WE ARE ASKING THE TUC, TRADES COUNCILS & UNIONS EVERYWHERE TO SPEARHEAD A MAJOR INITIATIVE WITH ALL CAMPAIGN GROUPS TO FIGHT TO RESTORE A FULLY PUBLIC NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE. IT IS THE LAST OPPORTUNITY TO STOP THE MOVE TO A TWO-TIER SYSTEM & PRIVATE INSURANCE ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE.
